3/4/2020 We prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation by doing an examination of conscience, and then went over to the church for the children to have the opportunity to go to confession. We also finished Chapter 6 on the Mass.
2/19/2020 As the time grows closer for the children to receive their First Eucharist, we discussed the parts of the Mass: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
2/12/2020 Moving on to Chapter 5, we learned about how to receive Holy Eucharist, and talked a lot about the early Christians and their absolute belief in the Eucharist as the Body and Blood of Christ!
2/5/2020 This week we looked at Chapter 4 and talked about the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist-how the bread and wine at Mass truly become the Body and Blood of Jesus!
1/29/2020 This week we explored Chapter 3; we talked about the Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus, and about Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary, giving them the wisdom and courage to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ!
1/15/2020 This week we started learning about the Eucharist! The children all received new books in preparation for 1st Eucharist entitled: Signs of Grace: You Are Loved and we read the first chapter, learning about the history of the Passover; the Israelites’ time in the desert, cared for by God; and how Jesus’ sacrifice cares for us all now.
12/11/2019 Fr. Park came to visit this week and talked with the children about Reconciliation and practices with them so that they will be prepared to celebrate their First Reconciliation this Saturday!
12/4/2019 In class this week we reviewed the process of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Fr. Park will be here next week to talk with the children next week and prepare them for their 1st Reconciliation. We also discussed the Advent wreath and discussed the parable about the Prodigal Son.
11/13/2019 We discussed the Sacrament of Reconciliation (chapter 6). Can you believe it? 1st Reconciliation is less than a month away! Please spend some time talking with your child about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and why it is important to you.
10/30/2019The 2nd graders had their personal safety lessons. Your child received a few handouts about the 4 personal safety rules of how to stay safe. Please go over them with your children and periodically review them: 1. CHECK FIRST 2. TAKE A FRIEND 3. TELL PEOPLE "NO" 4. TELL MY TRUSTED ADULT We also learned about an important prayer: the rosary! And we also made rosaries and learned how to pray the rosary. Each child took home a rosary packet that explains how to pray the rosary. If you and your family want to start praying the rosary together, try praying just one decade (one mystery, e.g., the first joyful mystery, the third sorrowful, etc.) each time you pray together.
10/23/2019 We discussed the two Sacraments of Service. Ask your child what they are and the graces given to those who receive these Sacraments. Please go over page 53 with your child.
10/9/2019 This week we worked on Chapter 3. We talked about the Trinity, the awesome mystery of One God, Three Persons: Father , Son and Holy Spirit. We also learned about the Good Shepherd and the lost sheep.
10/2/2019 This week, in chapter 2, we learned about how God wants us to be happy, and so he gives us the Ten Commandments to help us to know what is right and good.
9/25/2019 This week, in chapter 1 of our 1st Reconciliation preparation book, Signs of Grace: You Are Forgiven, we learned about how much God our Father loves us, and wants to share His life with us. We also learned about free will, and that just like Adam and Eve, we are free to choose to love God and accept His love, or to not love God nor accept His love.
