2/19/2020 Hello parents! Thank you for bringing your child to Faith Formation. This past week we read about Holy Signs. We learned that there are seven sacraments, and sacraments are special signs & celebrations that Jesus gave his Church. Because Ash Wednesday is next week. We also read about Lent. Lent is a 40 day season where the Church gets ready for Easter. The priest wears purple as a sign of sorrow. We will learn more as we get closer to Holy Week and Easter. Have a great weekend!.
1/15/2020 Happy New Year! Hi first grade parents. I hope all your families had good breaks. It was great to see all kids again. It had been a while. We had a crazy night because we got through both chapter 11 and chapter 12. Chapter 11 is about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit is a guide for everyone. Chapter 12 is called "Friends of God", and is about saints, Angel's, and holy people. We are connected to saints who lived before us, but we are also connected to holy people who live now. We didn't get to do the activities from either chapter so I sent them with your child, and they can do them at home if you would like. See you next week!
11/30/2019 Hello first grade parents! This week's class was about how Jesus Teaches Love. We learned that a commandment is a law that God made. The Great Commandment is the law that tells you to love God above all else and to love others the way you love yourself. We also learned about Advent. Advent is the season during the four weeks before Christmas when we prepare to celebrate the coming of Jesus. Advent is the first season of the Church year. An Advent calendar was sent home with each student. I hope everyone has a great break next week and a Happy Thanksgiving. I'll see you December 4th.
11/6 Tonight's class was about the Bible. The Old Testament is the first part of the Bible about God and His People before Jesus was born. The New Testament is the second part of The Bible about the life and teachings of Jesus, his followers, and the early Church. We learned a "parable" is a short story that teaches something about God. The second part of class we read the Good Shepherd story that contains a parable of the Lost Sheep. Please see if your child has the small book we colored, and see if he/she can tell you the story!
10/30 Hello first grade families. We had a great class tonight. Chapter 5 is all about the Holy Family comprised of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. This is the human family of Jesus. We also did a project for All Saints Day which is November 1st. Each student drew a self-picture with things special to them. We then named it "Saint (Child's Name) because each child believes in God, is loved by God, and does special things for others. We then stapled the picture to a strip of cardboard and each child carried their picture while we walked down the hallways wishing a Happy All Saints Day. It was fun!!
10/23/2019 Hello first graders and parents! Not surprising, it was hard for the kids to remember things from two weeks ago. That can be hard for me too! This week was about the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity can be difficult for the little kiddos to understand. The main thing is that the Holy Trinity is one God - three Divine Persons - the Father who created everything, the Son who saved us and shows us God's love, and the Holy Spirit who helps us. We will see you next week!
10/9/2019 It was great to see the students again! We reviewed important things from the first two weeks; practicing the Sign of Cross (Catholic Prayer) is one we will work on every class. This week we learned everyone is special because we are all Images of God - meaning part of God is in all humans because we are created by Him. Please remind your child it is great to take care of their body, to take care of their mind, and to listen to mom & dad! Remember we do not have class next week because of MEA. See you in two weeks!
10/2/2019 Hello first grade parents! Thank you for giving your children the opportunity to learn more about God. One of the things we are working on is making the Sign of the Cross. We had short lessons for chapter 1 and chapter 2 this week and learned about creation, praise, and Thanksgiving. We also learned that God created the earth, and man and woman, whom God told to take care of the earth. See you next week!
