April 11, 2018: Tonight we studied Chapter 21 in our Alive in Christ book. Ask your children to tell you about the reason they were created. Maddy covered chapters 7 & 8 in the Eucharist book.
March 21, 2018: Tonight we studied Chapter 6 in our Eucharist book. We also talked about Holy Week coming up quickly next week. Parents, please spend some extra time making the Triduum special for your family, capping it off by celebrating Mass on Easter Sunday. Have a happy and blessed Easter!
March 14, 2018: Tonight the children made some Lenten greeting cards to brighten the day of a homebound parishioner from one of our parishes. We studied Chapter 5 in our Eucharist book.
March 7, 2018: Tonight we covered chapter 4 in our Eucharist book. We read about the parable of the farmer and the seeds. Talk to your children about God's words and His love grown in them.
February 28, 2018: We covered chapter 3 in our Eucharist book, please remember to work on this book at home with your children when they need to review. Also if they don't bring the books to class, it is hard to study with the children. Tonight we went and celebrated the sacrament of reconciliation! The children did great.
February 21, 2018: We did a short review of Lent, talking about the three main tenets: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. Don't forget next Wednesday Night is our Lenten Penance Service, please plan on attending. Maddy reviewed Chapters 1 and 2 in the Eucharist book. Because we had our Child Safety Matters Session this evening, we did not have time to cover Chapter 3, please start that with your child.
February 7, 2018: Today we learned some things to help keep us safe at the PCYI lesson. The children received their first Eucharist books, the majority of which will be covered at home with parents. Maddy and I will review some of the content throughout the rest of the year. Lent starts next Wednesday! Please consider bringing your child to the Ash Wednesday Mass.
January 31, 2018: We talked about the Church's mission and about missionaries who spread the Word of God.
January 24, 2018: We studied Chapter 19 this week. We talked about Jesus' role as the Sacrificial Lamb, and about how Jesus is the true bread from heaven.
January 17, 2018: We talked about Jesus' sacrifice and how much He loved us. We also discussed how the Last Supper is the world's First Communion.
December 13, 2017: The children did a great job singing "Silent Night"! We studied Chapter 16 and started talking about celebrating the Eucharist. Merry Christmas from the Second Grade!
December 6, 2017: We talked about the Rosary and Friday's Holy Day, The Immaculate Conception of Mary. We also learned how to sing "Silent Night."
November 29, 2017: Start helping your children think about Advent; share what you know about Advent with them this week. Tonight we talked to Fr. Ellis about confession, which was very exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday!
November 15, 2017: ask your kids about Confession, consider sharing some of your experiences regarding confession with them. First Confession is December 2nd, that came fast! We finished God's Gift: Reconciliation tonight. Next class we will have a special guest! Father Ellis will be visiting to talk to your children about Reconciliation.
November 9, 2017: The month of November is a special month to pray for our dead loved ones. We should always pray that our dead loved ones are with God in heaven. The chapter we read in our Alive in Christ books talked about God's mercy- ask your kids to tell you about what His mercy looks like.
October 25, 2017: Ask your children to talk to you about reconciling with God through the Sacrament of Penance. Think about trying an examination of conscience before bed. Next Wednesday is all Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation- see you at Church at 7pm!
October 11, 2017: Children, tell your parents about free will. Discuss choices and consequences. Don't forget to start your Saint research!
October 4, 2017: God created the whole world, everything in it. God's greatest creation is us! In all of us he planted Jesus to grow throughout time. Ask your child about the Rosary.
September 27, 2017: Remember children, prayer is nothing more than talking to God. Start thinking about a Saint you want to learn more about. What is a Saint?
